Our Reggio story.
Kinder Kollege is a Reggio-inspired child care centre for children 0 to 6 years old. We take our lead from a way of seeing children that began in a small Italian city, and that still feels, all these years later, quietly revolutionary.
1945
It started with a school built by hand
In the spring of 1945, in the villages around Reggio Emilia in northern Italy, families began building a school out of what the war had left behind: bricks salvaged from ruins, timber, and the sale of an abandoned tank and a few army horses.
A young teacher named Loris Malaguzzi heard about it, cycled out to see it, and stayed. What grew from that school became known as the Reggio Emilia approach, and it rests on one idea that changes everything: the child is not fragile, empty or waiting. The child is capable, a researcher, a negotiator, a maker of theories, right from the start.
Malaguzzi wrote that a child has a hundred languages: a hundred ways of thinking, playing, questioning and expressing. A hundred ways of listening, of marvelling, of loving. His worry was that school and the wider world too often steal ninety-nine of them.

Reggio is not a curriculum to be delivered. It is a way of paying attention. Here is how it shapes an ordinary day with us.
Projects, not worksheets
An interest can last an afternoon or a season. Children follow it through drawing, building, retelling and revisiting, and their thinking gets deeper each time round.
The room is the third teacher
Calm light, natural materials, things kept low and within reach. The space is arranged so children can choose, gather, work alongside each other and come back tomorrow.
Learning made visible
Photographs, quotes, drawings and small displays let children revisit what they did, and let families see the thinking behind it, not just the finished thing.
Families in the picture
You know your child better than anyone. We want your stories, your questions and your worries. They make our work with your child better.
Time, unhurried
Children need long stretches to get properly lost in something. We protect that time rather than filling every moment.

Children 0 to 6 years
We are currently accepting registrations for children from birth through to six years old. If you would like to know whether we are the right fit for your family, the best first step is simply to say hello.
